Easter 2016 – Kilkivan Bush Camp

An extraordinary Easter 2016 combined with Bushwalkers of Southern Queensland.

Good Friday’s walk was to Pearsons Gap in Mudlo National park. a short walk but steep ascent to the lookout, with limited views.

Easter Saturday saw us heading out on Rossmore to Range Road then ascend steeply to Oakview National Park, through bottle trees, a lovely multicoloured eucalyptus forest out to Mount Sinai. No stone tablets here. Found the “Hanging Rock”. Total distance 21.4 km.

Easter Sunday was bleak as we drove to Mount Clara Smelter, descended into Fat Hen Creek and walked up Fat Hen Creek to the road crossing. Turned right onto the road and followed it to the a junction with powerlines to the right. Took the fainter track and ascended further to the Mount Clara summit and mine. Returned via the road and walked a distance of about 6 km, as the GPS and phone could not track past the creek!  Couldn’t wait to get back to camp to get dry clothes on.
